Argentina Energy Deregulation
AES CORP · 2026-08-04 · Importance 37 · Surprise 42
Argentina enacted Law 27,742 in July 2024, granting the President emergency powers and initiating reforms affecting energy-sector regulation, privatization, and investment. Resolution 400/25, effective November 1, 2025, introduced more competitive price signals, decentralized fuel management, and reduced subsidies in the electricity market. Decree 450/25 established a 24-month transition beginning July 4, 2025, to deregulate Argentina’s electricity market and encourage private contracting and competition. AES states that these changes may profoundly affect its operations and financial results, but their consolidated impact remains unpredictable.
