General Insurance underwriting income increased 10% year-over-year to $686 million, while adjusted pre-tax income increased 4% to $1.546 billion. North America Commercial underwriting income increased 24% to $372 million, with its combined ratio improving 190 basis points to 84.0%. International Commercial underwriting income decreased 33% to $200 million, and its combined ratio worsened 540 basis points to 91.3% because of higher catastrophe charges, rate pressure, and acquisition expenses. Global Personal underwriting income increased 356% to $114 million, while its combined ratio improved 560 basis points to 92.9%.
