General Insurance adjusted pre-tax income increased 4% to $1.546 billion in the second quarter and 29% to $3.174 billion for the first six months. The six-month combined ratio improved 4.5 points to 88.1, supported by $305 million lower catastrophe losses and $101 million higher favorable prior-year reserve development. North America Commercial six-month underwriting income was $699 million with an 84.8 combined ratio, a 5.1-point improvement, while International Commercial underwriting income was $478 million with an 89.2 combined ratio, a 2.1-point deterioration. Global Personal six-month underwriting income was $283 million, and its combined ratio improved 12.0 points to 91.2 because of lower catastrophe losses, improved business mix and favorable prior-year development.
