North America Commercial serves clients ranging from small and medium-sized businesses to multinational companies across the United States, Canada and Bermuda. Six-month net premiums written increased 17% to $4.730 billion, led by strategic transactions, reinsurance program changes and organic growth in Casualty, Property and Financial Lines. Second-quarter net premiums written rose 9%, with notable growth in Casualty and Financial Lines partly offset by lower production in certain Property lines. The segment reported a 5.1-point improvement in its six-month combined ratio to 84.8, although the adjusted accident-year loss ratio increased 0.5 points primarily because of business mix.
