Export Controls / Regulatory Risk

APPLIED MATERIALS INC /DE · 2026-08-20 · Importance 40 · Surprise 42

U.S. export regulations have restricted Applied Materials’ ability to provide certain semiconductor products and services to customers in China for several years. The U.S. government continues to impose new export licensing requirements that further limit sales and services to customers outside the United States, including China. Separately, increased U.S. import tariffs and retaliatory tariffs by China and other countries have created substantial trade-policy uncertainty; Applied Materials recorded a $253 million settlement charge in the first nine months of fiscal 2026 related to a previously disclosed export-controls compliance matter.
