Zoox Robotaxi Launch

Amazon’s Zoox plans to begin charging for robotaxi rides in Las Vegas on August 10. The launch follows nearly a year of free public rides in parts of Las Vegas and San Francisco. Zoox received federal approval for commercial deployment of up to 2,500 driverless vehicles annually, including purpose-built vehicles without steering wheels or pedals. The paid service positions Zoox against Alphabet’s Waymo, which currently leads the U.S. robotaxi market but uses conventional vehicle controls.
