Technology and infrastructure costs increased to $29,567 million in Q1 2026 from $22,994 million in Q1 2025, an increase of $6,573 million year-over-year driven by higher infrastructure spending and depreciation. These costs include payroll for R&D, data center servers and networking equipment, and data-center related depreciation and amortization that support AWS and other Amazon businesses. Management expects spending to increase over time to support artificial intelligence and machine learning initiatives and added infrastructure capacity. The company currently expenses the majority of costs associated with developing its satellite network and will capitalize certain costs once commercial viability and customer sales occur.
