The second-quarter effective tax rate rose to 25.3% from 18.3%, while the six-month rate rose to 32.4% from 20.2%. Six-month results included $169.0 million of income-tax-related accruals, a $160.0 million additional China tax obligation, and a $39.0 million second-quarter accrual for foreign tax matters. The Company paid $230.0 million during the second quarter related to unfavorable China tax determinations. Excluding specified items, the adjusted effective tax rate increased to 27.0% from 24.5% because of the China reassessment and a shift of income toward higher-tax jurisdictions.
