American Water Works is progressing with its proposed $63 billion acquisition of Essential Utilities. The merger has received shareholder and initial regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027. The combination would create the largest investor-owned water utility in the United States. Essential Utilities reported second-quarter 2026 operating revenue of $530.9 million, up 3% year over year, and invested $662.2 million in infrastructure during the first half of 2026.
