Nine-month cash provided by continuing operating activities increased 33.3% to $2.104 billion from $1.578 billion. Free cash flow increased 44.6% to $1.728 billion from $1.195 billion, while capital expenditures declined 1.7% to $376 million from $383 million. BD repurchased $2.250 billion of common stock, compared with $750 million in the prior-year period, and paid $875 million of dividends versus $899 million. The company also paid $2.696 billion of debt and received $704 million of long-term debt proceeds during the period.
