Ethylene Oxide Costs
BECTON DICKINSON & CO · 2026-08-06 · Importance 40 · Surprise 42
BD’s ethylene oxide sterilization facilities received a two-year Presidential compliance exemption from the EPA’s revised NESHAP requirements, but BD continues implementing facility changes and new emissions-control technologies. BD proactively installed fugitive-emissions controls at facilities in East Columbus, Nebraska, and Sandy, Utah. BD is also investing in new technologies and additional work practices to comply with revised pesticide-use requirements for ethylene oxide. Regulatory restrictions or capacity reductions at BD or third-party sterilizers could interrupt production, increase operating costs and reduce available sterilization capacity.
