Leasing demand is increasingly concentrated in BXP’s premier locations, particularly Midtown Manhattan, Boston’s Back Bay, Reston Town Center and select San Francisco submarkets. Second-quarter leasing volume totaled approximately 512,847 square feet in Boston, 498,936 square feet in New York and 375,987 square feet in San Francisco, compared with 219,069 square feet in Washington, DC, 103,440 square feet in Seattle and 44,882 square feet in Los Angeles. Second-generation cash rents increased 23.66% in Boston and 19.92% in New York, but declined 17.76% in San Francisco, 20.11% in Seattle and 10.20% in Washington, DC. Occupancy was highest in Boston at 92.9% and lowest in San Francisco at 79.7%, indicating uneven recovery across BXP’s gateway markets.
