Power Generation and Data Centers
CATERPILLAR INC · 2026-09-17 · Importance 17 · Surprise 24
Generac secured a long-term agreement to supply Amazon with backup generators for hyperscale data centers, including $2.4 billion of initial deliveries in 2027 and 2028 and potential qualifying payments of up to $8 billion. The deal positions Generac more strongly in the data-center infrastructure market and is accompanied by production-capacity expansion. Caterpillar and Cummins were identified as competitors, but Caterpillar’s roughly 2% gain and Cummins’ flat performance indicated the announcement was viewed as a company-specific Generac development rather than a broad repricing of backup-power suppliers.
