Supply Chain Constraints

CF Industries Holdings, Inc. · 2026-08-06 · Importance 37 · Surprise 42 · In source text

Nitrogen fertilizer supply was constrained by maintenance, unexpected outages and geopolitical disruptions affecting producers in Egypt, Iran and Russia. The conflict with Iran halted fertilizer vessel flows through the Strait of Hormuz in March 2026, curtailing or shutting down significant nitrogen capacity in the Middle East, which represents approximately 25–30% of globally traded ammonia and 35–40% of globally traded urea. Disrupted Qatar LNG exports also reduced operating rates or temporarily shut producers in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, further tightening global supply. The company expects the effects on nitrogen supply, demand and pricing volatility to persist in the near term as affected infrastructure and production capacity require time to recover.
