Costco opened its first warehouse in New York’s Capital Region at the Crossgates Mall complex in Albany, after more than 14,000 memberships were sold before opening. The store is expected to increase regional traffic and employment and offers New York-themed merchandise. Costco is also preparing a 164,000-square-foot Stone Mountain, Georgia, warehouse with a food court, pharmacy, tire center, and gas station; the location will employ approximately 300 workers and carry about 4,000 products. Additional expansion activity includes a 200,000-square-foot warehouse and 16-pump gas station under construction near Meridian, Idaho, and a proposed Escondido, California, warehouse expected to create 314 jobs.
