Consolidated second-quarter operating income increased 97.5% to $4.703 billion from $2.381 billion, including the absence of $833 million in prior-year legacy litigation charges. Adjusted operating income increased 35.4% to $5.157 billion, with Health Care Benefits contributing $2.426 billion, Health Services $1.733 billion, and Pharmacy & Consumer Wellness $1.475 billion. Health Care Benefits adjusted operating income rose 85.5% to $2.426 billion because of improved Government performance and the absence of a $471 million prior-year premium deficiency reserve. Health Services adjusted operating income increased 10.0% to $1.733 billion, while Pharmacy & Consumer Wellness adjusted operating income increased 10.2% to $1.475 billion.
