Ford introduced the Fathom, a midsize electric pickup and the first vehicle built on its Universal Electric Vehicle platform. The truck is scheduled to launch in 2027 with a starting price of $28,350, positioning it below many competing electric pickups and targeting affordability-conscious buyers. Production is planned at Ford’s Louisville Assembly Plant after a reported $2 billion retooling investment, with preorders expected to open in early 2027. Fathom will include features such as BlueCruise, bidirectional charging and embedded Apple Maps, while Ford is using a new assembly-tree manufacturing system and structural battery pack to reduce production costs.
