HII and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries launched a pilot to implement intelligent mechanized welding equipment at HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division in Pascagoula, Mississippi. The system automatically corrects welding positions in real time and stores production data to improve quality control and traceability. The initiative targets unit-fabrication areas that predominantly rely on manual welding and is intended to improve safety, productivity, and efficiency in building U.S. Navy vessels. The pilot advances the companies’ U.S.-Korea shipbuilding cooperation under their 2025 memorandum of understanding.
