ICE’s August 2026 Mortgage Monitor reported that U.S. mortgage-holder equity reached a record $18 trillion. Annual home-price growth rose to 1.5% in July, the highest level in 14 months, supporting homeowner equity accumulation. The report also identified elevated negative equity among recent-vintage borrowers, substantial rate disparities among similarly qualified borrowers, and historically wide discounts on bank-owned REO properties.
