Demand for electronic systems supporting artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure, communications, automotive, industrial, and other intelligent systems is increasing semiconductor manufacturers’ need for high-performance, energy-efficient, highly integrated devices. Wafer fabrication equipment investments were strong in calendar 2025 and continued to grow in 2026, with AI driving higher semiconductor industry spending across both memory and non-memory markets. Lam reported particularly strong demand from foundry customers, while longer-term demand is expected to benefit from 3D device scaling, multiple patterning, process-flow changes, and advanced packaging chip integration.
