Six-month operating expenses increased 11% to $7.181 billion, while adjusted operating expenses increased 11% to $6.897 billion, or 9% currency-neutral. General and administrative expense rose 16% to $6.121 billion, driven by personnel, data-processing, strategic-initiative investment, customer marketing fulfillment, and foreign-exchange remeasurement losses. Personnel expense increased 13% to $3.984 billion, and data processing and telecommunications expense increased 19%; depreciation and amortization rose 9% because of higher capitalized software amortization. Litigation provisions declined 67% year over year to $82 million, partially offsetting higher operating costs.
