MPC operated at 94% crude-capacity utilization in the second quarter, processing 2.798 million barrels per day of crude and 2.944 million barrels per day of net refinery throughput. Total crude capacity was 2.986 million barrels per day, up from 2.963 million barrels per day a year earlier. West Coast crude throughput increased to 515 mbpd from 485 mbpd, while Mid-Continent throughput declined to 1.030 million bpd from 1.165 million bpd, primarily reflecting planned downtime. Refinery product mix shifted toward distillates, with production of 1.131 million bpd versus 1.117 million bpd, while gasoline output declined to 1.439 million bpd from 1.526 million bpd.
