Battery Center Environmental Action

NEXTERA ENERGY INC · 2026-08-06 · Importance 40 · Surprise 42 · In source text

East Hampton Town Supervisor Kathee Burke-Gonzalez demanded that NextEra submit a revised emergency action and safety plan within 30 days for its battery storage center. The plan must explain how fire-suppression water will be collected, contained, and lawfully disposed of with zero environmental discharge. The demand follows a 2023 facility fire that allegedly contaminated drinking-water wells with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, and Suffolk County officials have called for operations to be suspended.
