Net Income and Profitability

NRG ENERGY, INC. · 2026-08-04 · Importance 62 · Surprise 46 · In source text

Second-quarter GAAP net income was $506 million, an improvement of $610 million from the $104 million loss in the prior-year quarter, while adjusted net income declined $24 million to $315 million. Adjusted EBITDA increased $308 million year over year to $1,217 million, but adjusted EPS decreased $0.24 to $1.49 because of higher interest expense, higher depreciation and amortization, and shares issued in the LS Power acquisition. Six-month adjusted EBITDA increased to $2,297 million from $2,035 million, while adjusted net income declined to $623 million from $870 million. The quarterly GAAP improvement reflected the acquired LS Power asset portfolio, higher realized East capacity prices, and favorable unrealized hedge gains, partly offset by mild weather and higher supply costs.
