The average cost per gallon of diesel fuel increased 70.5% in the second quarter and 41.2% in the first six months of 2026. Diesel fuel costs increased despite gallons consumed declining 5.2% in the quarter and 7.3% year to date because miles driven decreased. The company does not use diesel-fuel hedging instruments, leaving operating costs exposed to fuel-price fluctuations. Higher fuel surcharges contributed to LTL revenue-per-hundredweight increases of 15.2% in the quarter and 10.6% year to date.
