Diesel fuel costs, excluding fuel taxes, increased 70.5% year over year in the second quarter of 2026 and 41.2% in the first six months. Gallons consumed decreased 5.2% and 7.3%, respectively, primarily because of fewer miles driven. Old Dominion does not use diesel fuel hedging instruments, leaving costs exposed to market price fluctuations; fuel surcharges are intended to offset these changes.
