The second-quarter 2026 operating ratio improved to 70.1% from 74.6%, and the first-half ratio improved to 72.9% from 75.0%. Operating income margin increased to 29.9% in the quarter and 27.1% year to date, from 25.4% and 25.0%, respectively. Net income increased 30.5% to $350.6 million in the quarter and 12.5% to $588.9 million in the first six months. Higher yields, operating efficiency, discretionary-spending controls, and $17.2 million and $20.1 million of property-sale gains supported profitability.
