Second-quarter 2026 fuel and purchased power expense increased 17.1% to $558.5 million from $477.0 million in the prior-year quarter. The $81.5 million increase was the largest year-over-year operating expense increase disclosed in the income statement. For the first six months of 2026, fuel and purchased power expense rose to $995.2 million from $857.1 million, an increase of $138.1 million. The higher cost reduced the benefit of stronger electricity sales and increased customer usage.
