Total operating expenses increased 4.3% to $398.3 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2027 from $382.0 million. SG&A increased 4.5% to $369.7 million, primarily because of higher compensation and benefits and marketing and sales costs, partly offset by favorable foreign currency and lower bad-debt expense. Research and development expense increased 8.5% to $28.6 million from $26.4 million. R&D investment focused on sterile-processing technologies, procedural products and accessories, and gastrointestinal endoscopy devices and support accessories.
