Third-quarter income tax provision increased to $173 million from $142 million as pretax income increased to $713 million from $635 million. The implied quarterly effective tax rate was approximately 24.3%, compared with approximately 22.4% in the prior-year quarter. Year-to-date income tax provision increased to $464 million from $411 million, while the implied effective tax rate was approximately 23.4% versus approximately 21.9%. The adjusted EPS reconciliation included a $25 million tax adjustment in the quarter and a $67 million tax adjustment year to date.
