Uber plans to expand autonomous ride-hailing to 15 cities by year-end using an open-source supplier model. Investor Gary Black argued that Uber could have a better path to mass-market robotaxis than Tesla or Waymo because of Uber’s ride-hailing network and partner-based approach. Amazon’s Zoox is also beginning to charge fares in Las Vegas, becoming a controls-free autonomous taxi competitor to Waymo and increasing competitive pressure on Tesla’s robotaxi opportunity.
