SG&A Expense Trends

Tesla, Inc. · 2026-07-23 · Importance 72 · Surprise 74

SG&A increased $616 million (45%) in the quarter to $1.98 billion and rose $1.20 billion (46%) year‑to‑date to $3.82 billion. The quarter’s increase included a $283 million rise in stock‑based compensation primarily related to the 2025 CEO Performance Award, a $134 million uptick in employee and labor costs (including professional services), a $109 million increase in operating and litigation expenses and a $68 million rise in facilities costs. Year‑to‑date, stock‑based compensation was a $577 million driver of the increase and employee/labor costs rose $273 million. These SG&A increases materially contributed to lower operating income versus a scenario with flat SG&A despite revenue growth.
