Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern are pursuing a proposed combination that remains under regulatory review. More than 500 shippers publicly supported the transaction, citing expanded market access, stronger supply chains, and new growth opportunities. South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster separately supported the merger in a letter to the Surface Transportation Board. Norfolk Southern said the combination would expand access to western markets and reinforce South Carolina’s role as a global trade gateway.
