Hormonal Patch Demand
Viatris Inc · 2026-08-06 · Importance 40 · Surprise 42
Demand for estradiol patches used in hormone replacement therapy has increased sharply over the past year, primarily because the FDA removed a black-box warning and, to a lesser extent, because GLP-1 use affects contraceptive and HRT utilization. Viatris said it has a leading patch-manufacturing position, with its Vermont facility producing next-generation transdermal systems. The company is currently able to fulfill about 70% of estradiol orders, indicating demand is exceeding available supply. Management views the opportunity as a potentially significant revenue driver through 2030 and is evaluating internal and external capacity increases.
