We Energies said Microsoft will not be required to comply with geographic power-plant restrictions included in a recently signed 15-year contract for its Mount Pleasant data center. The Wisconsin Public Service Commission had previously rejected those restrictions, which would have limited Microsoft’s access to wind power sourced from other states. We Energies stated that it will follow the commission’s order even though the contract still contains the outdated provisions. Consumer advocates questioned why the contract was executed with terms inconsistent with the regulator’s decision.
