Manufacturing Capacity Expansion

WEC ENERGY GROUP, INC. · 2026-08-04 · Importance 64 · Surprise 42

WEC expects substantial new generation capacity will be required to support forecasted electric demand from data centers and modern manufacturing facilities. The company plans to invest approximately $6.1 billion from 2026 through 2030 in efficient natural gas-fired generation and related infrastructure, including 3,300 MWs of combustion turbines and 180 MWs of reciprocating internal combustion engine generation. These projects include a planned natural gas lateral pipeline supporting combustion turbines at the OCPP site. WEC also expects to retire approximately 900 MWs of additional coal-fired generation by the end of 2031 and use coal only as a backup fuel by the end of 2030.
