Operating Expense Trends
WASTE MANAGEMENT INC · 2026-10-28 · Importance 33 · Surprise 32 · No source text
Selling, general and administrative expense declined $10 million in the third quarter, to $655 million from $665 million, and fell to 9.6% of revenue from 10.3%. Nine-month expense was $2,045 million, compared with $2,048 million in 2025, and declined to 10.4% of revenue from 10.8%. Lower labor costs from acquisition synergies, particularly Stericycle, and lower professional fees helped offset higher bad-debt expense and technology costs. The nine-month reduction in professional fees reflected prior-year Stericycle integration consulting costs, while bad-debt expense rose due to account write-offs in Collection and Disposal and an unfavorable Healthcare Solutions adjustment.
