Second-quarter operating expenses increased to $504 million from $433 million, a $71 million increase. The company said the increase was primarily driven by acquired-business expenses, including $37 million of intangible-asset amortization versus $25 million in the prior year. Selling and marketing expense increased to $184 million from $158 million, research and development increased to $159 million from $144 million, and general and administrative expense increased to $114 million from $102 million. Adjusted operating expenses rose to $419 million from $370 million.
