Second-quarter operating expenses increased to $504 million from $433 million, but declined to 32.4% of sales from 33.5%. Six-month operating expenses increased to $1,031 million from $883 million while declining slightly to 33.8% of sales from 33.9%. The increase primarily reflected operating expenses from Elo Touch, including intangible-asset amortization, and higher employee-related costs. Selling and marketing, research and development, and general and administrative expenses each declined as a percentage of sales in the quarter, to 11.8%, 10.2%, and 7.3%, respectively.
