Allstate Protection Homeowners earned premiums increased 11.4% to $4.201 billion, while written premiums rose 8.1% to $4.752 billion. Underwriting income improved to a $226 million profit from a $76 million loss in the prior-year quarter. The recorded combined ratio improved 7.4 points to 94.6 because of higher average earned premiums and catastrophe losses that declined 12.8% to $1.408 billion. The underlying combined ratio worsened 2.9 points to 61.5 because of higher loss costs, while homeowners policies in force increased 2.9% to 7.819 million.
