Trade Policy and Tariffs
Tesla, Inc. · 2026-10-22 · Importance 38 · Surprise 42
Tesla states that the current tariff regime is expected to affect its energy generation and storage business more than its automotive business. U.S. import tariffs, retaliatory tariffs, export controls and other restrictions could increase supply-chain costs, constrain availability and affect facility expansions. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) and U.S. battery-cell tariffs could significantly increase battery-cell expenses, consumer costs and energy-storage demand, although tariff refunds benefited automotive and energy results during the nine months ended September 30, 2026.
