GAAP income tax expense increased to $1.205 billion from $1.061 billion in the fiscal third quarter. The GAAP effective tax rate was 17.6%, up from 16.7% in the prior-year quarter. Visa recognized an $18 million deferred tax benefit from a change in U.S. taxation of certain foreign earnings.
