American Express reported acceptance at more than 190 million merchant locations worldwide. Its non-U.S. footprint has more than doubled over four years, with expansion focused on travel destinations and cities hosting major events. The expansion is intended to narrow AmEx’s overseas acceptance gap with Visa and Mastercard and increase competition for international card spending.
