Market Demand Trends — Consumer Spending & Cross-border

VISA INC. · 2026-07-29 · Importance 42 · Surprise 40

Visa reported continued resilience in consumer spending and ongoing expansion in digital commerce, with ecommerce growing faster than face-to-face spending. Nominal payments volume increased 11% in the quarter and 10% for the nine-month period, supported by broad-based growth in both credit and debit spending. Nominal cross-border volume increased 14% and 15%, respectively, excluding transactions within Europe, supported by cross-border ecommerce and travel-related activity. Visa expects the shift toward digital commerce and electronic payments to continue, although volume growth remains dependent on consumer spending levels and broader economic conditions.
